Satellite Knights Resource Pantry Opens in Oak Summit
Arcadia University has opened a satellite Knights Resource Pantry in the Oak Summit apartment complex.
The pantry offers a variety of perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as personal and household hygiene products. It is located near the main entrance across from the elevator. The pantry on campus is located in Knight Hall Room 110.
“Both pantries are open to all students, undergraduate and graduate,” said Sabrina Glass, director of the Office of Sexual and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Education and Director of the Knights Resource Pantry. “Students are given 20 points per visit that they can use on all products with a breakdown of point cost for each product listed in each location. The implementation of a point system was decided in order to ensure we are serving as many students in need as is possible.”
The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food to live an active, healthy life. This continues to be a problem at many colleges and universities across the country.
According to the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments, approximately one in three college students experience food insecurity. Studies show that this impacts their health and their ability to perform well academically and stay in school.
