Arcadia University's presidential search has concluded. We are grateful to the entire University community for their participation, feedback, and patience during this process.
Dear Arcadia University Community,
It gives me great pleasure to announce, on behalf of the Board of Trustees at Arcadia University and the Presidential Search Committee, that Ajay Nair, Ph.D., has been named the University’s 22nd President. This is the culmination of an extensive presidential search, and we are so very excited to work alongside such a tremendous university leader. Dr. Nair begins his tenure at Arcadia on April 2, 2018.
When members of the Board of Trustees and Presidential Search Committee first met Dr. Nair, we were immediately impressed by his energy, vision, and excitement about the possibility of joining Arcadia University. These initial feelings were further confirmed after seeing and hearing the overwhelmingly positive feedback and reactions from the Arcadia community following Dr. Nair’s presentations and meetings on campus.
Dr. Nair is uniquely qualified to lead Arcadia University. He has had proven success at several of the top universities in the country, and he demonstrates a distinct understanding of the complex issues currently facing colleges and their students. In addition, as a first-generation college student, accomplished scholar of race and ethnicity, and social justice practitioner, he embodies many of the qualities that the Arcadia University community values. The University’s official announcement highlights in more detail Dr. Nair’s background and experience.
Dr. Nair is among the first American-born university presidents of Indian descent, and he is the first person of color to serve as president of Arcadia, marking a watershed moment in the University’s 165-year history. He has focused academic research and presented on many topics that are relevant to higher education today, including service learning and civic engagement, development and alumni relations, student activism, campus climate issues, and polyculturalism.
The Board is grateful to the Arcadia community members on the Presidential Search Committee, led by Chair Joycellen ("Jey") Y. Auritt, Ph.D. ’71, as well as to search consultant Andrew Wheeler and his team at Diversified Search, for their guidance and leadership. The committee was comprised of a wide variety of groups that represent our campus community, including Trustees (former and current), faculty, administration, students, alumni, and staff. These groups collaborated efficiently and smoothly, and they always maintained a high level of respect for the process, one another, and the candidates. Their efforts to remain transparent with the community led to one of the most thorough and successful search processes in our University's history, ultimately producing an exceptional selection.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank you for your support, participation, and patience during this yearlong search process. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Nair, his wife Paayal, and their two children to the Arcadia University community. You can find Dr. Nair’s email and social media handles on our website.
