Who qualifies?

Generally, our scholarship funds are intended to help students in specific programs for whom a small amount of financial aid can mean the difference between participation and staying home. Award decisions are based on financial need . Please note that scholarships can only be applied towards the program fee.  How can I apply? Scholarship applications and supporting materials will be accepted between February 1 and April 20 for fall and full-year programs, between September 1 and October 15 for spring programs, and between January 1 and March 31 for summer programs. The center notifies award applicants of decisions approximately four weeks after the scholarship application deadline.

The Global Studies Grant for Student Travel and Study Abroad

Designed to support foreign language training and other academic studies abroad, this grant provides supplemental funds for American students who already are studying abroad under the auspices of an official study abroad program conducted by an accredited academic institution. GSF seeks to support a formative experience abroad for the recipient, who also must share this experience with others upon his or her return. GSF is particularly interested in funding the study of strategically significant countries and languages. Among the most significant selection criteria are academic performance (as indicated in courses, grades, recommendations, and other achievements), program merit, and outreach potential.  Grant recipients will be expected to acknowledge GSF's support, to report on their experiences, and to work with GSF to share those experiences as widely as possible.

Can I apply federal financial aid to study abroad?

In general, all federal financial aid, excluding Federal Work Study, should be available as long as students are earning credits toward their degrees while abroad. This includes Pell Grants, guaranteed student loans, and PLUS Loans.  Some states also allow state financial aid to go with students abroad, however you should talk to your study abroad or financial aid office about policies with regard to state and institutional aid.

What if I am anticipating financial aid that will not be disbursed before the program fee is due?

If you are anticipating financial aid that will not be disbursed before your program fee is due, you must have a financial aid officer at your home school complete a Financial Aid Arrangement form. You need to print a copy of the form, give it to your Financial Aid officer and he/she will return it to Arcadia. When we get this information from your financial aid officer, we will note the amount expected and defer the payment of that portion of your fee until the disbursement date. You are responsible for payment of the balance by the program due date.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?

Questions about financial aid eligibility and individual consortium agreements can be addressed to Rosemary Hall, Financial Aid Coordinator.
