Study Abroad in Ireland with Arcadia University

Ready to Go to Ireland
Irish Immigration Process

This applies to Semester & Year students in the Republic of Ireland ONLY.  For more information, please contact your program manager. Students studying in Northern Ireland should see UK Visa Requirements.

All non-EU students studying in the Republic of Ireland for more then 3 months are required to complete a registration process with the Irish Police Force (An Garda Síochána) and pay a €150 EURO registration fee within their first month in country.

This is not a visa and cannot be completed prior to arriving in Ireland. American citizens do not need a visa to study in Ireland.

Irish Registration Process Guidelines

  • You are required to register with the Irish Police Force or Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) within one month of your arrival on campus.

  • The Arcadia Dublin staff will review this process with you during the Arcadia orientation in Dublin and direct you on what to expect.

  • In some instances your host institution will arrange a day for all visiting students to register as a group.  Directions will be provided during your on-campus orientation.

  • You are required to produce several documents, along with a €150 fee.  Official letters of enrollment and support will be provided by Arcadia University and your host institution. You will be responsible for providing personal financial records.

To complete the registration process, you will be required to produce:

  • Your original passport

  • Arcadia University Certification Letter (provided by Arcadia)

  • HTH Worldwide Health Insurance ID card or confirmation letter (can be printed from the HTH Well Prepared site in the “My Benefits” section)

  • Acceptance Letter from your Irish host institution (provided by Arcadia)

  • An original U.S. bank statement with evidence of sufficient funds in YOUR name.  Semester students must show evidence of €1500 EURO and full year students must show evidence of €3000 EURO in the bank account. You will need to check the current exchange rate to figure out the appropriate U.S. dollar amount. The bank statement cannot be in your parent’s name.  A joint account is acceptable providing you are one of the account holders. A photocopy of an original bank statement or an online bank statement will not be accepted.  Please redact your account number; the police do not need this private information.  Make sure to bring your bank statement with you when you fly to Ireland.

  • €150 EURO Registration fee (Only Credit and Debit cards are accepted- Cash will not be accepted)

  • Personal Irish address documentation (provided by your host institution or overseas housing complex)

  • Possible additional requirements (provided by host institution)

Other Information

If you are in possession of an EU passport, you may not be required to complete the Irish Registration Process.  However, this decision is left to the discretion of the GNIB and all students should be expected to complete this process.  Please speak with the International staff at your host institution after arrival for further instruction.
