London Area University Courses

Need specific courses? Looking to experience academic life at a London university? London Now and the London Internship provide flexible opportunities where you can choose from a range of courses at the following universities with a supplemental fee.

A wide range of courses are available at the following universities, however students will generally need at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible and supplemental fees will apply.

• City University

  • The information below will be useful as you browse potential courses at City University. In order to determine when a particular course is offered, you will need to understand the session codes below:

    Course offerings and information are available here. From this page, select an area of study in the box towards the top left of the page under the heading "Academic Programme." It is important to consider any pre-requisite information. Additionally, you should note:

    Business, Finance and Management courses are offered through the Cass Business School. Enrolment in these courses is restricted to students majoring in related areas. Additionally, academic requirements for the Cass School are more stringent that those for City University; students will be expected to have a cumulative grade point average well above 3.0. Finally, not all of these courses are available to study abroad students, so you will need to review the Course Catalogue to verify this.

    Actuarial Science courses are also offered through the Cass School. These courses are only available to students majoring in actuarial science. As not all courses are available to study abroad students, you will need to review the Course Catalogue to verify this.

    Economics courses are offered by City University separately from the Cass School; therefore, program requirements are different than those for Business, Finance and Management.

    Language courses are usually worth 2 semester hours of credit.

    Culture Studies courses LA2017 Performing Arts in London and LA2018 Historic London are not available to London Now and London Internship program students.

• Goldsmiths College

  • Goldsmiths College pre-registers you in the classes you select with your application. Make sure you carefully consider the courses you choose on your Course Selection Form. It can be extremely difficult to change courses after your application, and in many cases, you will find limited course availability after the application deadline.

  Make sure to list at least one alternate course for every course you select.
  List your choices and alternates in order of preference.

  • Goldsmith courses are worth 3.5 semester hours of credit.

• London College of Fashion

  • A number of courses at the London College of Fashion are available to study abroad students. These courses begin with the prefix LCOF (followed by four letters and three numbers). Course information is available here.

• Queen Mary
  • Queen Mary offers modules in biological and chemical sciences, physics and the science and engineering foundation program. Course information is available here.
  • Course options are limited by semester:

  Fall semester: Students can take courses that are taught in Semester 1 and may be able to take the first half of a full-year course.

  Spring semester: Course enrollment in Semester 2 courses will depend on the assessment method, as the exam period takes place after the London Internship and London Now Spring semester concludes. Course choices and assessment options will be confirmed with Queen Mary before final registration takes place.

• Royal Veterinary College, University of London

  • The RVC runs a 'modularized' degree program consisting of various course Modules and research-intensive Projects. Similar to American classes, Modules run for the entire 12-week term with students attending lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory sessions two days per week. Projects also run for the entire 12-week term, with students completing their research and laboratory work when they are not attending lectures or seminars in their Module. Students can elect to take ½ Modules or ½ Projects which still run for the entire 12-week term but which meet less frequently. Full-time students at the RVC normally select 1 module and ½ Research Project per term.

    As a student at RVC, you will be able to select from a range of full- and half-Modules or Projects. It is important to be aware of the prerequisites for some Modules and the number of credit hours awarded for each Module or Project. Check with your Program Manager if you are unsure if you meet the prerequisites for a particular Module. For more information on modules, please see this page. 

• School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)
  • SOAS offers courses in the following areas:
    Arts and Humanities
    Language and Cultures
    Law and Social Sciences
  • Course options are limited by semester:

  Fall semester: Students can take courses that are taught in “term 1” or “across the full year”.

  Spring semester: Students can only take courses that are taught “across the full year”. (Alternative assessments will be given for these courses as the exam period takes place after the London Internship and London Now Spring semester concludes.)

Other Important Points

• You are required to maintain 14-18 semester hours of credit throughout the semester.
• To participate in this program, students must enroll in at least one Arcadia Taught Course.
• Arcadia University does not issue pass/fail grades for work completed overseas. Please contact your program manager if you have any questions about this.
• In the British education system, students attend university for three years and only enroll in courses directly related to their degree. It is important to consider this and also to review any pre-requisite information if you intend to enroll in any second- or third-year courses at City University.
• In some cases, the overseas university will request that you submit syllabi and course descriptions from your previous work to demonstrate that you have satisfied any pre-requisites. It is advisable to have this information available.
• If you intend to pursue coursework or a placement in studio art, graphic design, art media production, dancing or music, you may be required to submit portfolio of your work online.
• While every effort will be made to accommodate your course requests, Arcadia University cannot guarantee placement in any course. For this reason, it is advisable to select alternative selections – generally 8-10 courses.
