Leif GustavsonLeif Gustavson, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Secondary English Education and Middle School Education programs at Arcadia University, where he teaches literacy education, designing learning environments, and ethnography for educational practitioners. His research explores the creative practices of youth (zine writing, graffiti, and turntablism among other forms) and how the ways in which youth learn in the everyday can inform and influence pedagogy.

Dr. Gustavson has published articles in The Journal of Children’s Literature and Field Methods. He has also recently presented papers at the annual meeting for the American Educational Research Association, the annual conference of the Journal for Curriculum Theory, and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. He is a member of the National Council for the Teachers of English and the American Educational Research Association.

Dr. Gustavson was chosen by the administration at Arcadia University to assist in developing and coordinating a study abroad program for first year students attending Arcadia University. Other recent work and research involves establishing writing centers at two comprehensive public high schools in Philadelphia as well as advising a writing group of ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders.

Dr. Gustavson has a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in Reading, Writing and Literacy, a master’s degree in Literature from the Bread Loaf School of English, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Franklin and Marshall College.
