First Lady Judge Marjorie O. Rendell comes to Arcadia's Campus on Tuesday, September 22nd at Stiteler Auditorium, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.   The entire community is invited to participate in a Town Hall Meeting to engage in democratic deliberation regarding the Internet and First Amendment protection.  In support of this initiative, Scholastic, Inc. will provide all educators who attend the program a set of the We the Kids teaching materials.

Autism Institute: Characteristics of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders  

Arcadia University Partners with The National Constitution Center.   Arcadia University, The National Constitution Center and the New York Times Knowledge Network develop online professional development courses.

Arcadia University Education Department faculty awarded two grants from the Lawrence J. and Anne Rubenstein Charitable Foundation.  Dr. Jane Duffy, Direcotr of Student Teaching was awarded a 2 year grant to establish a Professional Development School Partnership program and Dr. Leif Gustavson, Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Young Writers Project received funding for 2 years for the Qui Vive! Center for Writing, Book Arts and Performance.

Arcadia’s Annual Inclusion Institute completed its third annual summer institute. The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Special Education. Dr. Graciela Slesaransky-Poe and her staff from Arcadia University along with AAII teams from the Rose Tree Media School District attended a three-day AAII Summer Institute, where they developed a school based inclusion needs assessment, created a year-long action plan, and attended a variety of sessions lead by teachers, administrators, parents, and people with disabilities on exemplary inclusive practices. During the school year, AAII teams will receive on-going technical assistance on-site and on-line, and attend three face-to-face whole day follow up sessions at Arcadia’s campus. Participants who complete all requirements receive 3 graduate credits. The fourth annual Inclusion Institute will be held in summer 2009.

Education students return from Arusha, Tanzania.  Students taking ID 481: International Literacy recently returned from Tanzania. Dr. Bette Goldstone, Coordinator of the Master's in Language Arts and the Library Science Programs and students from Arcadia University traveled to Arusha, Tanzania to work with primary school students and teachers; helping them develop their literacy curriculum. They also were able to meet local educators and to travel throughout the country and participate in a safari experience.
