The Counseling program presented its inaugural Gillem-Bartoli Alum Award for Contributions to Social Justice to Dr. Radhika Sehgal ’99M, staff psychologist at Dickinson College, and Dr. Kristen Bertsch ’07M, staff psychologist at Drexel University and personal practice psychologist, during a ceremony on May 6.

This award was created by the program to honor the work of Dr. Eleonora Bartoli, professor of Psychology, and Dr. Angela Gillem, professor emerita of Psychology. The award recognizes alumni who have advanced social justice through their work and practice.

Dr. Bartoli directed and taught in the Counseling program from 2007 to 2019. During the 2019 Honors Convocation, she was recognized with the Provost Award for Outstanding Advising and Mentoring. She is a board member for the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council, which she previously chaired, and received the 2013 Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Dr. Gillem taught in the Counseling program from 1993 to 2018 and was named Professor Emerita in 2017. She was the inaugural recipient of the Provost Award for Outstanding Advising and Mentoring at the University’s 2015 Honors Convocation. She is a member and previous officer of the Association for Women in Psychology (AWP), as well as a fellow of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association and a member of the Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race and the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Gillem has received several awards for her work, including the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity’s Distinguished Racial/Ethnic Diversity Contribution Award in 2001, and the Christine Ladd-Franklin Award for Distinguished Contributions to AWP and to Feminist Psychology in 2004.
