Five new members have been elected to the Arcadia University Board of Trustees, with their terms beginning July 1.

David Paone ’04,’09M of Glenside, Pa., is a Recent Graduate Alumni Trustee elected for a two-year term. He earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Secondary Education in 2004 and an M.S. in Special Education in 2009. Paone is a mental health therapist at Salisbury Behavioral Health in Glenside.

A dedicated volunteer and certified coach for the Montgomery County Special Athletes’ Association, Paone also has been actively involved in several areas of the University for more than 10 years. As a student at Arcadia he had experience as a Resident Assistant, Student Affairs office worker, an Orientation Leader, and a member of the Orientation Planning Committee. His honors and awards include the Arcadia University Campus Leader of the Year in 2002, the Jami Rodriguez Distinguished Service to Orientation Award in 2003, and the Employee of Excellence at Milestones Partial Hospital in 2006.

John Edward Riggan of Philadelphia, Pa., is a Term Trustee beginning a four-year term. Riggan earned his B.S. from the University of Washington. He is the co-founder of Riggan Enterprises LLC and the Board Chair and Strategist of Solutions for Progress. He was with the Conservation Company from 1981 until 2005, serving as Vice President and Partner from 1981-95 and as Chairman and CEO from 1996-05.

From 1965 to 1972, Riggan worked with the National Peace Corps in several different initiatives in Africa. He specializes in Human Services and has worked as a director of several addiction rehabilitation programs. Riggan also has served on numerous professional advisory panels for international, national and local organizations, including private foundations, governments, nonprofits, and for-profit businesses.

Jean S. Hassler ’00M of Jenkintown, Pa., is a Term Trustee beginning a four-year term. She earned her R.N. from Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. After a rigorous career in nursing, she returned to school, earning a B.A. in English from Temple University in 1990 and an M.A. in English from Arcadia in 2000. Hassler is a former part-time adjunct Professor of English.

She has been a member of the Junior League of Philadelphia for 27 years and has maintained her membership on the Institutional Review Board for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia since 2000 and the Board of the Jenkintown Day Nursery since 2002.

Charles William Lentz ’03M of Hatboro, Pa., is an Alumni Trustee beginning a four-year term. He earned a B.S in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994, an M.A. in Education from Gratz College in 1998, and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Arcadia in 2003. Lentz has worked in the Abington School district for 20 years, serving as Principal of McKinley Elementary in Abington since 2008. Lentz is pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Widener University.

Lentz is involved in numerous community committees, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bucks County, St. Luke and the Epiphany Church, and the Welsh Society of Philadelphia, for which he has been the acting President since 2007. At Arcadia, Lentz is a former term member on the Alumni Association Board. He has experience as member of the Affiliation, Nominating and Career committees. He also co-chaired the President’s Task Force to raise alumni participation in the life of the University.

Richard Llewellyn Jones Jr., F.A.C.H.E, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., is a Term Trustee beginning a four-year term. Jones earned a B.A. from Denison University in 1962 and an M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1965. He was President and CEO of Abington Memorial Hospital from 1998 until his retirement in 2010, having spent nearly 30 years there as an administrator. At Abington Hospital, he received several distinguished awards, including the Abington Memorial Hospital Trustee Distinguished Service Award in 2008.

As a board member for several regional and national committees, including the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania and the Voluntary Hospitals of America, he has a background in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships, particularly in fundraising efforts and overall institutional strategic communication meetings. Jones established the hub hospital that led to Abington Health, comprising two acute hospitals, three major outpatient centers, and a corporate physician entity with 300 primary, specialist and medical educators.
