2019 Alumni Association Award Recipients

Susan Jackson Tressider ’84, ’90M

Alumni Golden Disc for Distinguished Achievement

Susan Jackson Tressider '84, '90M, is president of the Windmill Foundation, which she and her husband, Richard Tressider '90M, founded to continue the philanthropic legacy of her parents, Eugene and Marie-Louise Jackson. The Windmill Foundation supports individuals and communities in the areas of health, education, and human services. 

Tressider began her philanthropic work with her parents' family foundation, the Fourjay Foundation, where she served as a trustee for 25 years. The Fourjay Foundation’s, and now the Windmill Foundation's, support of Arcadia University has spanned generations. Her father set up the Marie-Louise Vermeiren Jackson Endowed Scholarship. Tressider and her brother began the Marie-Louise and Eugene Jackson International Fund for Student and Faculty Development. The Windmill Foundation also provides grants to Arcadia University annually. 

Tressider is a current member of Jefferson Health's Institutional Advancement Committee. She has volunteered for many community organizations and has served on various boards and committees at Abington-Jefferson Health, Cancer Support Community, Abington Friends School, and Gwynedd Mercy University.

Tressider holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Counseling from Arcadia. She is a faithful supporter of the University and is a member of the Gates Society for her lifetime giving commitment. 

Ellen TempletonEllen August-Templeton ’78, ’85M

Alumni Golden Disc for Meritorious Service

Dr. Ellen August-Templeton '78, '85M received her bachelor of arts degree in Early Childhood Education in 1978 and received her master of arts degree in Education in 1985 from Arcadia University.

August-Templeton, Executive Director of Green Byrne Child Care Center, has guided the strategic direction of the center for the past 15 years. 

In addition to her professional endeavors, August-Templeton is a devoted Arcadia University alumna and demonstrates her leadership, creativity, and dedication as an active member of the Alumni Association. Her most notable involvement includes serving as president of the Alumni Association during two separate tenures, the first from 1998 through 2001 and the second from 2015 through 2018. She is also a former member of the Board of Trustees. 

Jessica Cuttic ’13M

Young Alumni Golden Disc for Distinguished Achievement

Jessica Cuttic '13M received her master of arts in Counseling with a concentration in Child/Family Therapy in 2013. 

Cuttic has committed her career to expanding mental healthcare to children and adolescents in need. She began her career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and has worked at various behavioral health agencies. While continuing her work in mental health services, Cuttic opened a private practice for youth counseling.

She is currently the supervisor at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic. There, she helps shape the mental health services and assists with the implementation of an outpatient behavioral care system for youth throughout Carbon and Lehigh Counties in Pennsylvania. 

Cuttic regularly shares her expertise with Arcadia University and its Counseling department. She has presented as a co-panelist and recently served as an adjunct professor teaching PY 615 Child and Adolescent Counseling: Clinical and School Applications. She was also a research partner and mentor for a group of students developing a mental health workshop for foster parents. She co-presented the research at the Pennsylvania Counseling Association’s annual conference and was published in the Journal of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association

Candace GriffinCandace Griffin ’13M 

The Sankofa Award for Distinguished Achievement

Candace Griffin '13M received her master of science degree in Health Education from Arcadia University in 2013.

Griffin is a senior research program coordinator at Johns Hopkins University. She previously served as the membership chair for the Greater Washington Urban League Thursday Network, a community service and civic engagement organization with a mission to provide a forum for young adults to focus on community service, professional development, and political involvement. There, she managed the recruitment, retention, and engagement of nearly 300 young professionals and successfully increased membership by 71 percent in her first term. 

For three consecutive years, Griffin was named Distinguished Young Professional by the National Urban League of Young Professionals, which is awarded to members who have completed at least 100 volunteer hours and have participated in 60 percent of national conferences and programs. 

Currently, she serves as a board member for Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO) and Strong City Baltimore.

David PaoneDavid Paone ’04, ’09MEd

Mary Louise Armstrong Wolf Award

David Paone '04, '09MEd received his bachelor of arts degree in Psychology in 2004 and his master of education degree in 2009, both from Arcadia. 

Since graduation, he has generously dedicated his time and talents to the University. He served as a recent graduate trustee from 2010 to 2013, and mentored students and recent graduates during his five years in the Alumni Career Mentor Program. He has also assisted with many Alumni Association events, including the annual Alumni Weekend. 

Paone has also been an active supporter of Arcadia’s development efforts. He served as a class fund agent and a social media ambassador during the annual Day of Giving. Currently, he is the national co-chair of The Fund for Arcadia

In addition to his dedication to Arcadia University, Paone is an avid supporter and coach of the Montgomery County Special Olympics Athletic Association.

Sankofa Award for Distinguished Achievement
Awarded by the Black Alumni Association
Presented to an alumnus/a of African-American/African diaspora descent who exemplifies the spirit of Sankofa. This award will be presented to a deserving graduate in recognition of their significant professional accomplishments, as well the contributions they have made in mentoring and social justice activism in the African American/African diaspora community, which greatly enhance the prestige of Arcadia University.

Awarded to class officers during years in which their class celebrates a milestone reunion (every five years) in recognition of consistent dedication and service to Arcadia University on behalf of their class. Recipients are nominated by their classmates in appreciation of their thoughtful and creative efforts to both bring their classmates together and encourage continuous loyalty to their alma mater. Recipients must also have a record of consistent participation in The Fund for Arcadia or other philanthropic designations at the University, and cannot have previously received the Mary Louise Armstrong Wolf or Golden Disc Awards.
