The minor in Creative Writing gives you an opportunity to write poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction and to engage in peer critique of their work.
Five courses are required (20 credits).
Two Literature courses
Three Writing courses
One of the following workshops:
OR any 300-level writing workshop. One has to be a 300-level creative writing workshop OR
Required Course
Read deeply, write clearly, and explore what makes a story matter. This course introduces poetry, fiction, and drama—teaching you how to analyze style, theme, and meaning across genres.
Required Course
Write, revise, and grow your voice in both poetry and fiction. You’ll get feedback from peers and your professor, while studying great works to sharpen your technique and storytelling style.
Elective Course
Tell true stories with a creative twist. This workshop dives into memoirs, personal essays, and other nonfiction that reads like fiction. You’ll explore voice, metaphor, and memory through writing and reflection.
