The Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certification in Secondary Education (Grades 7-12) is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and who seek to qualify for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification at the secondary level in General Science.
The General Science Education Certification prepares students to teach general science at the secondary level. Combining strong scientific knowledge with effective teaching strategies, this program equips future educators to inspire and engage students in grades 7-12. An educator holding a valid Pennsylvania certificate for general science is qualified to teach courses in life science, physical science, earth and space science, forensic science, environmental science, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). An educator with a General Science certificate also may teach first-year core courses in biology, chemistry, physics and earth and space science (e.g., Biology 1, Chemistry 1, Keystone Course, etc.).
Required Course
Learn a wide variety of instructional techniques and materials to facilitate science learning in the secondary classroom and laboratory settings. This course addresses controversial issues, safety in the laboratory and storage areas, meeting the needs of diverse students, use of technology in the classroom, integration of environmental and social issues and a variety of other issues relevant to the secondary school setting.
Required Course
An introduction to instructional technology, you will examine fundamental technologies from a problem-based learning perspective through real-world scenarios.
Pennsylvania has signed the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement that provides for acceptance of state-approved educator preparation programs between certain states to facilitate educator mobility.
