The minor in History offers students majoring in other fields the opportunity to draw upon the past in order to broaden their understanding of the present and promotes the development of skills in research, analysis, and communication that are basic to success in any career.
Five courses (typically 18–20 credits) in History, no more than two of which may be at the introductory (100) level and at least one of which must be at the advanced (300) level.
Elective Course
Explore how race, gender, and class shaped early America from the first colonies through the Civil War. This course looks at key events and people, while examining who was included, who was left out, and how citizenship was defined and denied.
Elective Course
Study how colonialism, globalization, and independence movements shaped modern Africa. You will explore cultural traditions, social change, and Africa’s global connections before and after colonization.
Elective Course
Discover the rise of the Roman Empire and what led to its collapse. Topics include daily life, slavery, gladiators, early Christianity, and how the empire fell to outside invasions.
