Arcadia University’s PreK–4 Education Certification program provides the theoretical foundation and practical classroom skills needed for teaching in early childhood settings. For students pursuing PK 4 degrees or early childhood teacher certification, this program builds competencies in evidence-based instruction and prepares you for a PreK–4 teaching license in Pennsylvania.
As one of the state’s recognized elementary education certification pathways, this program helps you meet the requirements for a Pennsylvania early education credential and equips you to succeed as a teacher of young learners. The master’s degree is not required for certification. Certification requirements need to be determined with their academic advisor as the requirements may vary based on academic background.

An introductory course in special education with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity, this course provides an overview of the complex issues surrounding inclusive and heterogeneous schooling.

This course will equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge about teaching literacy to early and emergent readers and writers. The course will review historical and contemporary frameworks, theories and models for teaching literacy, authentic literacy assessment practices and strategic reading and writing instruction.
Pennsylvania has signed the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement that provides for acceptance of state-approved educator preparation programs between certain states to facilitate educator mobility.
Arcadia University School of Education is an approved provider of educational programs leading to Pennsylvania Department of Education Professional Certification and offers certification at the undergraduate and post baccalaureate (graduate) levels. Arcadia University has not determined if our curriculum meets the requirements for teacher certification in other states or US territories.
