The public relations minor will explore theory and practice of public relations, how public relations operates in organizations, its impact on publics, and its function in society. The public relations minor provides a foundation for a career in public relations but also meets the needs of those planning other professional and managerial careers that require an understanding of public relations concepts and management practices.
A minimum of five courses are required.
Required Course
Learn the foundations of public relations, from strategy and audience targeting to writing and design. You’ll practice real-world communication skills through short assignments, guest speakers, and an individual project—perfect preparation for careers in PR or media.
Elective Course
Build and manage a blog or website using WordPress. You’ll create SEO-friendly content, customize layout and design, and promote your site through social media. The course also covers analytics, branding, and legal basics for web publishing.
Elective Course
Master the research tools behind strong PR campaigns. This course covers surveys, focus groups, data analysis, and more. You’ll learn how to gather and interpret information to shape effective, evidence-based communication strategies.
