Tunnels and trenches are the keywords for work this week on the University Commons. And the campus got a rare peek into the infamous Castle tunnel–visible standing at the Brubaker entrance. A trench along the Dining Complex side of the field will soon contain the University’s electrical power and fiber and communications networks.
Changing over the power and communication networks is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. During that time, power will be shutdown to Murphy, Spruance, Taylor, Library, Heinz, Dining Hall, Dilworth, Thomas and Kistler.
Work continues this week on laying the infrastructure in place for the new Commons—electrical ducts, fiber and communications network, and water, sanitary and groundwater lines. On the east side of Kuch Center, adjacent to Boyer, sanitary lines, manholes and storm water management work is done, and work has begun putting the new site of approximately 20 offices at subgrade, in preparation for putting in the building footers.
