On Friday, March 9, nearly 350 first-year and transfer students, along with 30 faculty and staff members, left campus to embark on Arcadia University’s 25th annual Preview, a two-credit course and weeklong international experience.
Over the March 9 to 16 spring break, students studied in Greece, Ireland, Northern Ireland, France, Austria, England, Oman, Vietnam, Spain, China, Nicaragua, Benin and Italy. This year, Preview features a new program in Benin, which explores the francophone nation’s history with the Americas, its rich culture, and its rise to one of the most safe and stable nations in Africa; and another in Nicaragua, which investigates the relationship between religion and history, as well as what it means to be “Catholic,” “Protestant,” or “Unaffiliated” in both Nicaragua and the United States.
In class, programs focus on topics such as music, history, industry, religion, art, politics, economy, social issues, and language. When students return to Arcadia, they will present their research and experiences abroad at the Global Expo on April 13, an annual event which fosters cross-cultural exploration and celebrates international education.
Students first departed on Preview in 1994 as a way to encourage study abroad opportunities. At the time, only 150 students spent the week in London, the only Preview location. In total, more than 7,500 students have participated in the Preview program since that initial year.
