Arcadia START is a pre-orientation program for incoming students interested in social change. Participants, or “STARTers,” build community, learn about local opportunities for community engagement and civic participation, and engage in critical reflection and dialogue about their roles, opportunities, and challenges as change agents.
Applications will open in April.
Morning/ Early Afternoon: Welcome! Move into your residence hall for the year
Late Afternoon/Evening: Introductions, Dinner, Interactive workshop, Social activities
Morning: Early breakfast, Workshop about a variety of approaches to social change, Walking tours of local neighborhoods along the Eastern Road corridor, Lunch
Afternoon: Community engagement projects with organizational partners
Evening: Community Dinner with campus and community partners, Social activities
Morning: Early breakfast, Community engagement projects with organizational partners, Lunch
Afternoon: Reflection and Culminating experience
Evening: Dinner in Mount Airy ...and look forward to meeting the rest of the incoming class as Welcome Week starts the next day!
Estimated Fee: An estimated $180.00 fee will help cover all lodging, meals, transportation, materials, t-shirts, and activities for the duration of the program. The final fee will be published in April. Financial assistance will be available to eligible students who qualify for financial aid through Arcadia.
