15 PT Alumni Honored for Earning Specialist Certification in 2009
Fifteen PT alumni were among 1,001 physical therapists honored for attaining specialist certification during 2009. They were honored by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting Feb. 17 to 20 in San Diego.
“The certified clinical specialist has built on a broad base of professional education and practice to develop greater depth of knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice,” says Dr. Rebecca Craik, Professor and Chair of Physical Therapy. Objectives of clinical specialization include: promoting the highest possible level of care for individuals seeking physical therapy services in each specialty area; assisting consumer, the health-care community, and others in identifying certified clinical specialists; and promoting the development of the science and art underlying each practice area. Certification began in 1985, and with the new members there are 9,409 physical therapists who have attained certification.
- Dr. Harold D’Anunciacao, PT, D.P.T.,OCS who earned a post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2008, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Jessica Rose Doskow, PT, M.S.,OCS, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1997, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Elliot M. Greenberg, PT, D.P.T.,OCS, CSCS, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2003, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Stephen M. Kareha, PT, D.P.T.,OCS, ATCS, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2006, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Christopher N. Nicholas, PT, D.P.T.,OCS, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2004, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Daniel P. Skulavik, PT, D.P.T.,OCS, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2003, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Roxanne J. Smith, PT, D.P.T.,OCS, ATC, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2004, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Aline Kelley Thompson, PT, M.S.P.T.,B.A.,OCS, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1997, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Sarah B. Wenger, PT, D.P.T., OCS, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1997, attained clinical specialist certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Dr. Geraldine Guingon-White, PT, D.P.T., WCS, who earned a post-professional D.P.T. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2007, attained clinical specialist certification in Women’s Health Physical Therapy.
- Francis Angiolillo, PT, OCS, who is the PT at PENN Physical Therapy that operates on Arcadia’s campus, received recertification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Rose A. Schmieg, PT, D.Hc., OCS, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1987, received recertification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Christopher Wise, PT, M.S., OCS, ATC, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1991, received recertification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Edward Zimmerman, PT, D.P.T., OCS, who earned a post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2006, received recertification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
- Laura A Schmitt, PT, D.P.T., M.S., SCS, OCS, who earned an M.S. in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1991, earned recertification in Sports Physical Therapy.
APTA is a national professional organization representing more than 73,330 members throughout the United States. The specialist certification program was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists.
