Abbey Ryan ’03, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Design, was featured in the second annual Art in the Open Philadelphia, held from June 9 through 12. Art in the Open is a citywide event created to celebrate local artists, their inspiration and relationship with the urban environment. The juried selection of artists presented  their creative process alongside the Schuylkill River, inspiring passersby to view the city of the Philadelphia in new ways.

The four-day event culminates with the Art in the Open Sales Exhibition at The Painted Bride Art Center, June 18-July 5. Ryan is showing two of the paintings she completed at AiO: “Peaches in the Sun (Schuylkill River)” and “Pear in the Schuylkill River Light.”

“Art in the Open was a wonderful experience,” says Ryan. “I always enjoy sharing my work and my painting process with people, so I loved having a chance to do that in person. I love the light along the Schuylkill River, so I took advantage of my time during Art in the Open to work on still life painting using that light.”

Carole Loeffler, Assistant Professor of Art and Design, was also a featured artist at AiO. Read more about her exhibition.
