Arcadia University to Host Mindfulness Refreshed Conference

By Christopher Sarachilli | August 25, 2016

In conjunction with the Won Institute of Graduate Studies, Arcadia’s Department of Philosophy and Religion will host the Mindfulness Refreshed Conference on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants are invited to join scholars from around the world as they define the true meaning of “mindfulness” and discuss current trends in Won Buddhism, a modernized form of Buddhism that enables enlightenment and clarifies teachings for practitioners.

Led by Dr. Bokin Kim, president of the Won Institute of Graduate Studies, the panelists include Jin Young Jang, professor at WonKwang University’s Institute of Mind Humanities; Sung Ha Yun, a PhD student in the Asian Languages and Cultures program at the University of California, Los Angeles; and Dr. Chung Nam Ha, a Won Buddhist minister and scholar.

Additionally, two contemporary Buddhist authors will serve as keynote speakers at the conference: David Loy, whose work on the relationship between Buddhism and modernity has been frequently published, and Michael Carroll, an advocate of mindfulness in the workplace.

The conference is free and open to the public. To RSVP, contact won.conference@woninstitute.edu.
