The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics hosted geneticist and biologist Dr. Nathan Mortimer, who held two presentations for students and faculty on Nov. 8. An assistant professor of Cellular Immunology at Illinois State University, Dr. Mortimer conducts research on the methods that pathogens use to evade or overcome cellular immune responses.

Dr. Mortimer’s first presentation, “Parasite evolution: Comparative genomics defines a role for differential gene expression,” was intended for Bioinformatic students. His second panel, “Invasion of the body snatchers: A functional genomics approach to understanding host-parasite interactions,” benefited students and faculty in a range of scientific fields.
