Dr. Hsin-Hau (Cathy) Lee, assistant professor of Psychology, published “A qualitative investigation of former Taiwanese unaccompanied minors’ culture‐based conflicts with parents” in the Journal of Family Therapy. The article is co-authored with psychologist Dr. David M. Kasson and Dr. Shiqin (Stephanie) Chong, counselor at the University of Buffalo.

Dr. Lee investigated the role of Taiwanese culture in the lives of former unaccompanied minors during their transition into American society, as well the cultural clashes they may later experience with their parents. The investigation’s results showed that Taiwanese culture is a meaningful factor in the lives of the young immigrants who were interviewed, and that they overall felt closer to their parents post-immigration despite any long-term separation.
