School of Global Business faculty members Dr. Annette Halpin and Meg Nolan have been invited to travel to China for two weeks in May to lecture at Dalian Nationalities University (DNU). The invitation resulted from a visit by Dalian Professor Lucia Tan, who was at Arcadia University for three weeks in the fall 2013 semester.

Arcadia’s professors are part of a DNU program that brings in international scholars; three professors from the UK are also part of Dalian’s exchange program.

During Tan’s visit, which was hosted by The School of Global Business, she observed courses in international business, learned about open courseware, explored programs to possibly introduce into the curriculum at Dalian, and interacted with faculty, students, and staff.

DNU is funding Halpin and Nolan to work with Tan’s students using BizCafe, an online simulation program used in Arcadia business courses. In addition, Halpin will teach a section on foreign exchange markets and Nolan will teach a section on global human resources management.

“I’m looking forward to an opportunity to work with Chinese undergraduate students to incorporate simulations in their curriculum to facilitate learning,” said Halpin, who believes this experiential visit could lead to the development of online collaboration using simulations to connect Chinese and American students.

“I am excited to share our teaching methods with the students of Dalian Nationalities University,” said Nolan. “I am also looking forward to observing their faculty and incorporating some of their best practices into my classes here in the School of Global Business. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with other faculty around the world.”

Interim Dean Catherine Morgan stated that the invitation is a testament to the quality of Arcadia’s business faculty and to the strong relationships developed during Tan’s visit.
