Reading specialist or social studies teacher. That’s the question Jacob Adams will have to ask himself when he graduates with a master’s degree in Literacy Studies: TESOL and Reading from Arcadia University this May.

In 2020, the Pottstown, Pa., native graduated from Kutztown University with a degree in secondary education social studies. He then went on to become a social studies teacher at Upper Darby High School but aspired to do something different.

“I always had an interest in teaching English language learners during my undergrad years, and when searching for graduate programs to pursue, Arcadia was the institution that stood out… Becoming a reading specialist has become more intriguing after going through the final steps of the reading program. I do like teaching social studies, but will have to make a decision for myself for what I want to teach in the long run.”

Whatever Adams decides, athletics are likely to remain part of his future. He coaches football at Upper Darby and enjoys playing and watching sports in his free time.
