Stephen Kleiman, Adjunct Professor of Music, is currently playing in the pit orchestra at the Arden Theater’s  production of The Three Penny Opera now through Nov. 7.

Kleiman plays a Hawaiian guitar (that’s an acoustic guitar with a bottle neck slide) and tenor banjo, which he says are all called for in Kurt Weil’s orchestration. “The music in this production is very true to the original score as presented in 1930s Germany when the play first premiered,” says Kleiman.

Kleiman has taught music for the past 10 years, teaching two levels of guitar.

His musical accompaniments also including playing with Grammy winners Diane Schor, Al Martino comedian Rich Little, and the Woody Herman Big Band, and he has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. During the ’70s he was on the road with Buddy Miles and has done pit work for Broadway shows, Cats and Suessical the Musical.
