Dr. Sacca Presents at National Genetic Counselor Conference

On Sept. 15, Dr. Rosalba E. Sacca PhD, MSGC ’16 presented “Trans-counseling: A Case Series of Transgender Individuals at High Risk for BRCA 1 Mutations” at the National Society of Genetic Counselors’ Annual Educational Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Sacca highlighted three case studies that reflect issues and counseling strategies she has used to care for transgender patients.

Dr. Sacca was the distinguished student speaker at Arcadia’s 2016 Honors Convocation ceremony. Upon graduation, she accepted a position at the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston, Mass., where she promotes patient care in the field of cancer genetics.

Many Genetic Counseling students who attended Dr. Sacca’s presentation will also attend First-Year Seminar speaker Nicole Maines’ upcoming lecture on Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family, a book that illustrates one family’s exploration of gender identities, on Oct. 5.
