Dr. Jennifer Riggan, associate professor of Historical and Political Studies, recently co-authored the article ””We Can’t Go Home”: What Does Peace Mean for Eritrean Refugees?” The piece was published Aug. 1 on the pan-african news site African Arguments, and addresses the delicate position of Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia now that these historical enemies have declared peace.

The article features themes of nationalism and citizenship apparent in Dr. Riggan’s full-length ethnography, The Struggling State: Nationalism, Militarization, and the Education of Eritrea. Published through Temple Press in 2016, this provocative book is the product of Dr. Riggan’s 20 years of research on Eritrea.
