Photography major Jackie Higgins ’10 is making an impact in her field. Higgins was chosen as finalist in the 29th Annual College Photography Contest. Her piece was hand-selected by Nell Campbell, photo editor of Photographer’s Forum, from nearly 14,000 photographic entries this year.

Higgin’s photograph, taken in Ithaca, N.Y., will be featured in the Best of College Photography 2010. The publication will be distributed to college libraries and photography instructors worldwide.

“With all my photographs, I try to avoid any sort of feelings or hidden meanings pushed on the viewer. Instead I choose to show people how beautiful things can be that are local to where a person lives,” Higgins says. “I just want people to see what nature is like as is, if they just look.”

After graduation, Higgins hopes to work as a photographer for a nature or conservation magazine or as a wedding photographer. She’s off to a great start.
