What Are the Steel Girders in Front of Boyer?

By Purnell T. Cropper | May 7, 2010

Construction on the new University Commons is just weeks away, but a few steel girders being installed in front of Boyer Hall have started a buzz about what’s happening.

The steel girders will hold mockups of two different types of terra cotta panels as part of the final decision-making process on the exterior finish for the Commons.

The panels will arrive in early June for the review process. The differences in the panels will be in terms of finish, spacing and size.

Passersby also might notice white spraypaint along the pathway in front of Boyer, marking how the construction trucks will access the site. Watch for complete maps and more information in the coming weeks. Use the President’s Office Suggestions & Ideas online form to submit questions about the project.
