On March 31, Dr. Stephen Huber, Associate Professor of Physics, gave a public discussion about “Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Reactors, and the Fukishima Crisis.” The event was broadcast live and the archived video can now be viewed online.

“The phrase ‘nuclear physics’ for some people probably is somewhere akin to a root canal,” says Huber. “Relax. Don’t worry about it. If you can count on your fingers, you’ll be able to understand what is going on with these reactors.”

Guiding audience members through nuclear energy basics and the specific issues surrounding the Fukishima plant, Huber also addressed the anxiety surrounding radioactive waste as well as common misconceptions perpetuated by major media sources.
