Dr. Peter Appelbaum, Professor of Education, Coordinator of Graduate Mathematics Education and Curriculum Studies Program, Director-at-Large of Undergraduate Curriculum, was appointed to serve on the 2010-11 Math Education Peer Review Committee for the Fulbright Specialist Program. The program is designed to award grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in short-term collaborative two- to six-week projects at higher education institutions in over 100 countries worldwide.

“Having spent a year as a guest-professor at the Freie Universität in Berlin, working on a transnational research project, having hosted a collaborator from Germany here at Arcadia for a semester, and having served as a member of the International Commission for the Study and Improvement of Mathematics Education for a number of years, I know the benefits of extended periods of cross-national and trans-cultural research and practice,” says Appelbaum.

“It’s an honor to be recognized both for my expertise and for my international involvement and reputation, and I am excited to support international exchanges and collaborations.”

Appelbaum is also the President of the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies where he works on the global level of the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies to pursue richer forms of scholarly discourse not limited by national or regional assumptions expectations.
