School of Global Business Presents Research Symposium, April 11

The School of Global Business presents its first Research Symposium on April 11, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in 201 Brubaker Hall, coordinated by Dr. Zaneta Chapman, Assistant Professor of Business Administration.

The School’s research symposiums will aim to enhance and support faculty research, encourage faculty-student research collaboration, allow students to advance their presentation and communication skills, and provide opportunities for scholars in the community to share their research at Arcadia.

The first in an upcoming series of research symposiums, the event will feature two presenters: Dr. Raghu Kurthakoti, Assistant Professor of Marketing, and Siwei Gao, a Ph.D. candidate at Temple University Fox School of Business.

Kurthakoti, whose research interests include product placement effectiveness, consumer behavior, and empirical modeling, will discuss “Event Study to Assess Brand Placement Effectiveness in Movies.” Kurthakoti has a Ph.D in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a Master’s degree in Agribusiness from the Indian Institute of Management, and a B.A. in Agricultural Science from the University of Agricultural Sciences. He has more than four years of professional experience as a banker, management consultant, and marketing researcher.

Gao will present “A Risk-Based Risk-Finance Paradigm.” Gao is a program candidate for a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Risk Management and Insurance at Temple University. She holds an M.S. in Management Science from China University of Geosciences and a B.S in Economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Gao’s fields of interest include risk modeling, actuarial mathematics, corporate risk management, incentive contracts, systems engineering and foreign exchange. She is the Assistant Editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Risk and Insurance and the former Assistant Editor of the Journal of Risk Finance.
