Piece by Piece: Oak Summit Parking Deck Assembled

By Purnell T. Cropper | August 9, 2012

By Chris Macchi ’12 Time-lapse photography was used to capture construction progress on Arcadia University’s Oak Summit parking deck. Recorded the morning of Aug. 8, the video captures activity inside one of this summer’s hard-hat areas around campus. While the deck isn’t expected to be fully completed until early fall, the structure is taking shape quickly. It takes a mere three minutes for the 300-ton crane operator to hoist one of the concrete slabs from the truck bed to its final resting place in the parking structure. Each of the 60-foot slabs weighs close to 21 tons. As the 86 deck pieces are brought together, welders follow behind securing the deck to supports, ensuring a timely and efficient build.
