Curotto Presents Ring Polymer Dynamics Research at ACS National Meeting

By Purnell T. Cropper | September 7, 2012

Dr. Manny Curotto, Professor and Chair of Chemistry and Physics, presented his research on “Ring Polymer Dynamics in non Euclidean Spaces” at the 244th American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition: Materials for Health and Medicine, held in Philadelphia, Aug. 19-23.

An extension of the Ring Polymer Dynamics approach to curvilinear or curved spaces mapped by stereographic projections was developed and tested. In curved spaces, the presence of a nonuniform metric alters the classical and the Ring Polymer equations of motion and the most challenging obstacle faced is the loss of stability of the traditional symplectic integrators for the propagation of the trajectory ensemble.
