June 4 marked the official opening of “Between Matter and Experience,” an exhibition at the University of the Arts that includes the works of Betsey Batchelor, associate professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and Krista Profitt ’11 and Lauren Garvey ’09, alumni of the painting program at Arcadia University.

The works featured in the exhibition, contributed by nine contemporary painters, suggest “the way it feels to move through the world without feigned knowing or emotional distance” and “the existence of something not entirely present,” according to the exhibition press release. Inspired by a conversation held by a few of the participating artists, the exhibition grew to include a wide range of voices from different cities, backgrounds, and generations.

The opening reception for “Between Matter and Experience” took place on June 5, and the exhibition will remain open in the President’s Office Gallery, Hamilton Hall at the University of the Arts until July 3. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
