Dr. Sheryl Van Horne, assistant professor of criminal justice, presented a paper titled “When Parents Kill: Examining Filicides in the U.S.” at the American Society of Criminology in San Francisco on Nov. 21. This research examines 12 years of national data on filicides from the Supplementary Homicide Reports, exploring the differences between maternal and paternal killings, especially in terms of age of the child.
