The First-Year Seminars “Reading Between the Rhymes” and “Words of Mass Destruction,” in conjunction with student organization PTAH and the Office of Institutional Diversity, hosted the Words Unspoken open mic night on Dec. 3.

In a special performance, black/trans/queer poet J Mase III ’06 read original poetry at the event. Earlier in the day, he also facilitated a poetry and performance workshop with PTAH, which focused on written exercises like solo and group poems, as well as how to develop creative works in social justice.

“It was great to be on campus and be able to use poems and music to discuss vital topics like white supremacy, racism, and the reality of trans people in the US,”  said J Mase III.
