Complete a foundation course that suits your degree and career.
An introductory course in special education emphasizing inclusion and diversity, this course provides an overview of the complex issues surrounding inclusive and heterogeneous schooling. Through various learning strategies and experiences, students become familiar with current special education theory, practice, advocacy and legislation, and gain expertise on best practices to ensure access equity and quality education for every student. It includes field experience and case studies.
Culminating Capstone
Your Capstone experience gives you hands-on skills to apply to your career. Your specific Capstone course will depend on the pathway you choose.
(Applies to the Autism Education/Healthcare Management pathway and the Infant Toddler Mental Health/Healthcare Management pathway of the Modular Master’s degree.) An action research project that enables the student to synthesize and apply master’s degree coursework in a way that supports the student’s personal and professional goals. The project must be approved by the adviser to meet program expectations.
(Applies to the Applied Behavior Analysis/Healthcare Management pathway of the Modular Master’s degree.) Prepares students to serve as supervisors, trainers, mentors, and coaches to human service staff in various settings ranging from schools to clinics while addressing behavior analytic skills that may be the topic of training. This course emphasizes creating motivating environments for staff that maximize performance and minimize problems such as poor treatment fidelity. This course focuses on the integration of basic behavior analytic concepts into training plans.
