Dr. Fabio Oldoni, assistant professor of Forensic Science, and Yoon Jung Yang ’20, ‘21MSFS published “American Forensic DNA Practitioners’ Opinion on Activity Level Evaluative Reporting” in the July issue of the Journal of Forensic Sciences, the official journal of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). In this paper, the authors gained an overview of the opinions about activity level reporting held by forensic biologists in the United States.

Dr. Oldoni and Yang highlight key steps required for the implementation of evaluations of activity level DNA reporting in criminal courts. These include, among others: education, training, research, and standardized approaches and guidelines, which are imperative to bringing activity level evaluations of DNA evidence into crime laboratories and the U.S. legal system accordingly.
