Ellen Elizabeth Costello ’10 was awarded the Horace C. Woodland Memorial Award at Arcadia University’s 2010 Honors Convocation. The award goes to a senior prospective teacher who has been the most active in promoting better understanding among fellow students during his or her years at Arcadia.

Costello, of Swarthmore, Pa., attended Ridley High School. She is earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and pursuing a Master of Education in the literacy education areas including reading and ESL. She has been on the Dean’s List and Dean’s Distinguished Honors List throughout her career at Arcadia and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi.

“Ellen is a leader in the classroom in the most generous and graceful manor,” said Assistant Professor Mark Wade. “She models enthusiasm for the field of education and took full advantage of every opportunity to improve her skills and extend her thinking. Ellen’s skill in asking critical questions and pushing herself and her classmates to rise to a higher level of commitment in seeking meaningful educational experiences makes her an excellent candidate for this award.”
