Asman ’17 Attends NCAA Convention

By Christopher Sarachilli | February 23, 2016

In January, Kyle Asman ’17 attended the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Asman, a lacrosse player who is president of Arcadia’s Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and vice president of the Middle Atlantic Conference SAAC, networked with athletic directors and other college athletics leaders, attended workshops, and participated in conferences held during the convention.

Throughout the week Asman attended workshops on mental health and career options, heard speeches by Condoleezza Rice and NCAA President Mark Emmert, and met Dikembe Mutombo and the parents of ESPY Award-winning Lauren Hill, who succumbed to brain cancer last year.

“One of the things that really amazed me was how much our voice actually matters,” said Asman. ”The athletic directors, the chancellors, [and] the presidents actually do listen to the athletes.”

Asman thanked President Nicolette DeVille Christensen and Director of Athletics Brian Granata for the opportunity to attend the convention.
