Galing ’18 Lands MLB Position as Phillies Correspondent
Samantha Galing ’18 will be a Real Time Correspondent (RTC) for the Philadelphia Phillies this year. One of 50 RTCs working at Major League ballparks around the country this year, the Business Administration major will attend nearly all Phillies home games, capturing pre-game photos and video clips and interviewing players, coaches, and team officials.
“Sports have and always will be a big part of my life,” said Galing. “After graduation, I hope to work for either MLB or the Phillies in operations or public relations. I’m excited for this job because I’ll get to work with different departments at the Phillies.”
Galing, who minors in Sport Management, has molded her college experience to enhance her career goals. She works in Arcadia’s Athletic Office and is vice president of the Society for the Advancement of Business Administration student organization, a role she has used to organize trips to see the Philadelphia 76ers and Phillies. She credits her major with giving her the diversity to go in multiple directions in the sports industry.
Galing, who has more than 800 connections on LinkedIn, used the social media tool to connect with sports executives, including those at the Phillies. After weeks of networking, two head executives contacted Galing and asked for her resume.
A few months later, Galing headed to the MLB headquarters in New York to interview for three positions.
“The RTC position was my goal because it meant I would get to be MLB’s eyes and ears at Citizens Bank Park,” said Galing. “I would be getting paid for something I do anyway when I go to games, and I would get to interview players and fans. What sports fan wouldn’t want this job?”
