Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Granata announced that men’s and women’s cross country once again will be fielded as a varsity sport at Arcadia University, beginning in fall 2015. The Knights last fielded cross country teams in 2004. “We feel that men’s and women’s cross country help diversify our varsity sport offerings for current and future students on campus,” Granata said. “There are a number of quality programs within the Middle Atlantic Conference, and we look forward to building a successful program in the years to come.” Arcadia will now sponsor 18 NCAA Division III programs, including eight men’s programs (baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis) and 10 women’s programs (basketball, cross country field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball). The Knights added men’s lacrosse and women’s golf in 2012. The addition of these two programs will raise the number of men’s and women’s cross country teams in the Middle Atlantic Conference to 17. “The continued growth and development of our athletic program benefits Arcadia in many ways, and we are excited about this expansion,” said Dr. Nicolette DeVille Christensen, president of Arcadia University. A search for a head cross country coach will begin immediately.
