Arcadia Collecting Shoes for Haiti Earthquake Victims

A special Soles4Souls collection for Haiti Relief is planned for Monday, Jan. 18, as part of the One-Stop Drop event in the Murphy Hall parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., says Cindy Rubino, Community Service Coordinator. “The Soles4Souls organization is asking for shoes, tents and sleeping bags—all in gently used/good condition.”

“The earthquake in Haiti paints an all-too vivid picture of the scale of human tragedy that can occur when the unexpected forces of nature bring destruction to some of the world’s most vulnerable people,” says Arcadia President Jerry Greiner. “Our thoughts are with the residents of Haiti, members of our community with family members living in Haiti, as well as the students and faculty from other universities who were visiting the island nation at the time of the devastating earthquake.”

People who are interested in helping can make an unrestricted donation to the International Response Fund at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). The public can also help by texting “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation (added to cell bill) to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. Funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
