Graphic Design major Amanda Crelin ’10 placed as a finalist in the 30th Annual Student Photography Contest, sponsored by Nikon Inc., USA.

Crelin’s photograph was taken at Sandy Hook, N.J. Growing up close to the shore, she developed a strong connection and appreciation for the beach. View image.

“I took this photograph on a warm day this past fall when the chaos of the summer crowds had subsided. It was very peaceful and quiet and gave me an overall calming feeling,” she says. “I wanted to give viewers the same feeling when looking at my photograph. That way, even if just for a moment, they could escape the stresses of life.”

Crelin’s work will be published in the Best of College Photography 2010.

The judges for the contest were Douglas Manchee, chair of the Advertising Photography Department at Rochester Institute of Technology, Mark Takeuchi, faculty at the Art Center College of Design, and Dr. Barbara Vilander, author and photography instructor at the University of California. More than 3,500 students from around the world participated.
