The Honors Convocation guest speaker is Dr. Amy Werner, who earned her second Arcadia University degree, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, in February 2010. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology magna cum laude in 2007. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Delta. Werner will speak at Honors Convocation on Saturday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. in Kuch Center.

During her first year, Werner participated in Arcadia’s London Preview during spring break. This trip sparked her interest in international opportunities, and in 2005 she studied abroad at the University of Otago in New Zealand. In 2006, she was awarded a Vira Heinz Scholarship for Women in Global Leadership and traveled to Equatorial Guinea in West Africa, where she completed her undergraduate thesis work investigating the sustainability of an endangered medicinal tree.

While a student in the Physical Therapy doctoral program, Werner participated in a two-week physical therapy pro-bono trip to Arequipa, Peru, serving both adult and pediatric populations.

Along with fellow PT students, she authored clinical research on “Usual Physical Therapy Practices Following Total Knee Replacement in Montgomery County, Pa.” This research has recently been presented at national meetings in both Philadelphia and San Diego and is being submitted for publication.
