Walbert Advances Her Career in Development

After 21 years as Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Jan Walbert leaves the Student Affairs Office and joins University Advancement as Vice President for Development, focusing on major gifts and planned giving. For more than two decades, Jan has welcomed each new student and family to campus and smiled proudly as each student walked across the stage at Commencement.

Walbert’s institutional history and personal connections provide a strong link to students, alumni, faculty, staff and parents. Her customized Pennsylvania Arcadia license plate reads AU 247. She notes that these can be ordered through Arcadia’s Office of Alumni Relations at 215-572-2160.

“I am excited about the opportunity to be directly and actively engaged in fund-raising for the place I love and have called ‘home’ for the past 21 years. This is a truly special opportunity for me. I am looking forward to engaging with alumni, parents and other donors, and especially reconnecting with the alumni I have known as students, and the many alumni I have met around the country at special events.

“I look forward to seeing many alumni at Reunion this June and in the future at other events,” Walbert says, adding that she welcomes hearing from alumni via e-mail and enjoys hearing treasured campus memories or favorite Jan Walbert stories (walbertj@arcadia.edu).

At Home & In the World—The Campaign for Arcadia University has reached an exciting point in time, already including 25 new scholarships; yet more than $5 million still needs to be raised to accomplish the remaining goals of the $23.5 million Campaign. Additional alumni and parent support is essential for success and to achieve the goals for the University, including the new University Commons, soon to be a focal point for students, faculty and staff, providing much-needed gathering space and a location for campus celebrations and daily activities.

“Jan’s extensive experience and her knowledge of our alumni, parents and current students will enhance connections and help to build a continued lasting legacy for Arcadia University,” says Nick Costa, Vice President for University Advancement. “We are very pleased that she is joining the Advancement team after Commencement in May. As a member of the Advancement team, she will work with staff and the President’s Task Force on Alumni Relations to build on the success of the Alumni Association and to encourage more alumni involvement and engagement.”

Josh Stern, current Dean of Students, has been named Associate Vice President and Dean of Students and will become Arcadia’s senior student affairs officer.
