Dr. Joan Hulse Thompson, Associate Professor and Chair of Political Science, has contributed an essay, “Working Women and Their Families: The Family and Medical Leave Act,” to the newest edition of Women in Politics: Outsiders or Insiders? The book is edited by Lois Duke Whitaker.

In her essay, Thompson examines congressional action on the FMLA from its initial enactment in 1993 and its expansion in 2008, as well as state programs and proposals for future expansions, reports Dr. Steve O. Michael, Provost and Academic Vice President.
