Fiction translated into fun, “quidditch” has been adapted into a sport possible to play without the use of magic. A mainstay of Harry Potter Conventions, and a popular sport in many U.S. colleges, now Arcadia students are hopping onto brooms for the first annual Arcadia Quidditch Cup, hosted by the Society for Castle Restoration (SCR) on March 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Dome.

“Quidditch is a cross between polo, rugby, dodge ball, and football,” explains Jennifer Clay ’12, President of the SCR. “Players run around the field on brooms trying to score goals while avoiding being hit by other players and balls. The game ends when a player catches the ‘Golden Snitch,’ a ball attached to a person running around and hiding on the field.”

The SCR is primarily concerned with the historical restoration and preservation of the Grey Towers Castle. Their club activities aim to bolster awareness and pride in Arcadia’s historical landmark among the University community.

“Support the teams and come in costume,” says Clay. “Both players and spectators are invited to participate in the costume competition during the event.” The winner will receive a prize from the Noble Collection, announced at the Student Programming Board movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 1, which will show directly following the tournament at 9 p.m. in Stiteler Auditorium.
